With our events being cancelled starting with the one we had planned for March Madness, along with the NFL Draft, and others-all due to the COVID restrictions-we, like so many, needed to regroup and refocus. Of course, it was very disappointing to see travel plans postponed, film productions put on hold, theaters going dark and red carpet premieres being pushed further and further away. Likewise, student and pro athletes, alike, saw their seasons stop and their future in sports become a series of question marks, as well. Nevertheless even in the wake of this pandemic, we, as the filmmakers and athletes involved in this project, held steadfast in our purpose behind the film. At the root of “Beyond the Game”, the peer to peer mission of sharing stories- by athletes for athletes- was now, more than ever, vital.

The virtual world became our new outlet. Thus,on July 23rd, we held our first “Beyond the Game” virtual event, “Conversations & Cinema”. We shared sneak peeks of the film, hosted great conversations with athletes, sports leaders and entrepreneurs. We also provided updates of what’s to come with our documentary. On that day, we were joined by people around the globe logging in on our platform. Everyone recognized that the unity that we all feel when gathering in a stadium or sitting in a theater still exists and as the athletes participating stated, it was energizing. That tenacious and contagious spirit we experienced on our July 23 event will again be captured, undoubtedly, after the pandemic subsides. But in the interim, we will seize it virtually until we are all able to be together in person.
